FIFA President Gianni Infantino and CAF President Patrice Motsepe have expressed deep sorrow following the tragic death of Berekum Chelsea forward Dominic Frimpong, who was shot and killed during an armed robbery attack on the team bus last Sunday.
The incident occurred as the Ghana Premier League side were returning from an away match, leaving the local football community in shock and reigniting concerns over the safety of clubs travelling for league fixtures.
The 20-year-old striker, who had joined Berekum Chelsea on loan from Aduana FC earlier this year, was said to be showing promising development before his life was cut short.
In an official statement, Gianni Infantino described the news as heartbreaking and extended condolences to all affected by the tragedy.
“I am deeply saddened to hear of the tragic passing of Berekum Chelsea Football Club’s Dominic Frimpong following a reported attack on the team while returning from a Ghana Premier League fixture,” he said.
He further conveyed sympathies on behalf of world football, offering support to the player’s family, the club, and all who knew him.
CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe also expressed profound grief, describing the incident as devastating and offering solidarity to Ghanaian football.
He extended condolences to the Ghana Football Association and the bereaved family, assuring that CAF stands with Ghana during this difficult period.
Authorities have since launched investigations into the attack, as the football community continues to mourn the loss of one of its rising young talents.
