Ghana’s Black Princesses have revived their FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup campaign with a convincing 3-1 victory over South Korea in Poland.
The win gives Ghana a crucial three points and keeps their hopes of progressing to the knockout stage alive after suffering a 3-0 defeat to Ecuador in their opening Group C fixture.
After a goalless first half, the Black Princesses returned from the break with renewed determination and broke the deadlock in the 52nd minute through Sarah Nyarko, who produced a superb long-range strike to beat the South Korean goalkeeper.
Ghana doubled their lead just three minutes later when Ivy Osei Owusu calmly chipped the goalkeeper to make it 2-0.
The Black Princesses remained in control and continued to create chances before Ruth Amponsah added Ghana’s third goal in the 84th minute with a composed finish.
South Korea managed to pull one goal back in the fifth minute of stoppage time, but Ghana held on comfortably to secure a vital victory.
The result has breathed new life into Ghana’s campaign, with the Black Princesses now turning their attention to their final Group C encounter against France on Saturday, September 12.
Ghana will need another positive result in the decisive fixture to strengthen their chances of securing a place in the knockout stages.
