Kenya Records 19 Mpox Deaths As Cases Rise To 1,298
Health authorities say the outbreak has spread to more than 40 counties, with seven identified as high-risk areas.

Kenya has recorded at least 19 deaths from Mpox since the outbreak was confirmed three months ago, according to the country’s Ministry of Health.
The ministry said the country has so far recorded 1,298 confirmed Mpox cases, with Mombasa recording the highest number at 452, followed by Nairobi with 320 cases.
Seven counties have been identified as high-risk areas due to their location along major transport corridors and proximity to border crossings. They include Busia, Makueni, Kiambu, Kilifi and Nakuru, among others.
The ministry warned that Mpox remains a threat despite ongoing efforts to contain its spread, urging intensified public education, surveillance and screening at county border crossings to identify and prevent new infections.
Health authorities are also maintaining surveillance for other infectious diseases, including Ebola. Although no confirmed Ebola case has been recorded in Kenya, measures have been put in place to respond to suspected cases and prevent the virus from entering the country.
The ministry said it will continue strengthening surveillance, vaccination, public awareness and coordination among health authorities as it works to contain Mpox and prepare for other emerging health threats.
