The Ashanti South Regional Police Intelligence Directorate has arrested two suspects in connection with a robbery attack on an Indian national in Obuasi, as well as a separate plot targeting a distribution company in the area.
The suspects, identified as Iddrisu Fuseini, popularly known as “Iddi,” and Shaibu Mohammed, also called “SM” or “Cicinati,” were arrested in intelligence-led operations carried out between April 16 and April 20, 2026.
According to a police statement, Fuseini was arrested at his hideout in Bedieso after intelligence indicated a planned armed robbery in Obuasi. During interrogation, he allegedly admitted to being part of a six-member gang involved in a robbery at New Baakoyeden on April 12, 2026.
The gang reportedly attacked an Indian national at his residence and stole GH₵150,000. Investigators say the robbery was aided by an insider, Ibrahim, an employee of the victim, who allegedly provided information about cash kept in the house.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Mohammed at Gausu on April 20. He is said to have confessed to participating in the planning of the earlier robbery and revealed that the group was also preparing to attack a distribution company near Mawuli Hotel.
Police also disclosed that both suspects are currently on trial at the Obuasi Circuit Court in connection with a separate robbery case involving GH₵600,000.
Meanwhile, a manhunt has been launched for other suspected gang members identified as Khalifa, Edward, Prof, Waddle, Ebbe, and Ibrahim. Authorities say the suspects are believed to be armed with a pump-action gun and a locally manufactured pistol.
The police have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects and recover the weapons, while urging residents to provide information to assist investigations.
