Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, John Matthew Kofi Setor, has disclosed that the government has distributed 1.7 million birds across the country under its poultry development initiative, the Nkokonkititi Programme.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Mr. Setor said the programme has benefited poultry farmers in several regions, including Ashanti, Ahafo, Bono, Bono East, Greater Accra, Western North, Eastern, Central, and Volta.

According to the Deputy Minister, the initiative forms part of government efforts to boost local poultry production, enhance food security, and support farmers within the sector.

Responding to a follow-up question on the availability of maize and soya beans for poultry feed production, Mr. Setor explained that processing factories are working directly with suppliers to procure the necessary raw materials.

He noted that the factories process the feed and distribute the finished products to beneficiaries of the Nkokonkititi Programme, helping farmers reduce production costs and improve poultry output.

The government has indicated that the programme remains a key component of efforts to strengthen Ghana’s poultry industry and reduce dependence on imported poultry products.
