To drive digital infrastructure and sustainability, the US$1.1 billion investment will span over the next 3 years.
Speaking at the MTN Media and Stakeholders Forum in Kumasi, Angela Mensah-Poku, Chief Enterprise Business Officer of MTN Ghana said for 2026 alone, approximately $380 million will be deployed.
She explained that this will include the construction of around 800 new network sites nationwide to improve coverage and service quality.
Angela Mensah-Poku, said the last three decades have been defined by partnership with Ghanaians and the media.

“The media in Ashanti have told the MTN story”
Addressing journalists and stakeholders, Mrs. Mensah-Poku paid tribute to the role of the Ashanti media in shaping MTN’s journey.
“The media in Ashanti have told the MTN story,” she said. “From our first call in 1996 to today’s 5G trials, you have been our voice in communities, holding us accountable and helping us connect with the people we serve.”
She noted that MTN has grown alongside Ghana, evolving from a voice and SMS company to the country’s leading digital operator.
How the business is doing
Mrs. Mensah-Poku said MTN remains one of Ghana’s largest taxpayers and employers.
“Today, MTN contributes about 6% of the country’s total tax revenue. That is a reflection of how deeply embedded we are in the Ghanaian economy,” she stated.
She added that the business recorded strong performance in the first quarter of 2026, driven by data, MoMo, and enterprise services, and that MTN continues to create thousands of direct and indirect jobs across the country.

30 Years of Progress – Powered by You
Under the theme “30 Years of Progress – Powered by You”, MTN is reflecting on three decades of impact while looking ahead to the next phase of growth.
“Our customers, regulators, partners, and the media have powered this progress,” Mrs. Mensah-Poku said. “As we mark 30 years, we are not just celebrating the past. We are investing in the future.”

Committed to a more sustainable business
The CEB emphasized that MTN is committed to building a more sustainable business that goes beyond connectivity. Key focus areas include digital inclusion, youth skills development, environmental responsibility, and support for SMEs.
“As a company, we are committed to a more sustainable business,” she said. “That means investing in clean energy, reducing our carbon footprint, and using technology to solve Ghana’s biggest problems in health, education and finance.”
