Story Highlights
  • MTN Ghana completes MoMo separation into a standalone fintech company
  • Customers assured of uninterrupted services and unchanged MoMo operations
  • New structure to boost innovation, agent expansion, and financial inclusion

Mobile Money Fintech Ltd. (MMFL), the standalone fintech company carved out of MTN Ghana, has assured customers of uninterrupted services following its official separation on March 31, 2026.

At a media briefing in Kumasi, Nana Addai, Head of Mobile Money Fintech Ltd. – Northern Business District, explained that the move was in line with the Bank of Ghana’s Payment Systems and Services Act, 2019, which requires mobile money operations to operate as separate legal entities.

Nana Addai said the new structure would allow MMFL to innovate faster, expand its agent network, and introduce more tailored financial products for individuals and businesses within the Northern Business District and beyond.

He emphasized that there would be no changes to MoMo wallet balances, agent operations, or transaction processes.

“We remain committed to delivering secure, customer-focused digital financial services and deepening financial inclusion across Ghana,” he stated.

MTN Ghana CEO Stephen Blewett had earlier noted that the separation positions both MTN and MMFL to grow independently while continuing to invest in Ghana’s digital future.

The new entity, Mobile Money Fintech Ltd., is jointly owned by MTN Dutch Holdings and the MTN Ghana Fintech Trust.
