John Dramani Mahama has launched a 10-year National Artificial Intelligence Strategy aimed at transforming Ghana’s economy through innovation, job creation, and inclusive digital growth.
Speaking at the official launch, the President said the strategy is designed with clear targets and measurable indicators across key sectors, with a strong monitoring framework to ensure effective implementation over the next decade.
A central feature of the plan is the establishment of a Responsible Artificial Intelligence Office, which will coordinate stakeholders, oversee execution, and drive the overall objectives of the policy.
According to him, the long-term vision is to build a robust AI ecosystem by 2035 that improves digital literacy, strengthens entrepreneurship, and promotes local innovation across industries.
The strategy also focuses on enhancing data sovereignty, supporting indigenous language technologies, and improving public service delivery through digital tools.
President Mahama said AI will be integrated into education to encourage innovation beyond classrooms, with universities expected to play a leading role in research and development.
He further noted that the initiative is designed to help Ghanaian startups scale globally while ensuring inclusion for the informal sector, women, and persons with disabilities.
The President stressed that gender inclusion will be prioritised and public institutions will be strengthened to lead AI-driven transformation across the country.
