Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Ibrahim Sannie Daara has expressed scepticism about whether newly appointed Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz can significantly transform the team within a short period, but has called on Ghanaians to fully support him ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 73-year-old Portuguese tactician was officially unveiled on 13 April 2026 on a short-term contract and is expected to lead Ghana into a challenging World Cup campaign in North America.
Ghana, making its fifth appearance at the global tournament, has been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.
While questioning the limited time available for Queiroz to make a major impact, Sannie Daara emphasised that national unity and support will be crucial for the team’s success.
“I doubt Carlos Queiroz can improve the Black Stars in just three weeks,” he said in an interview “I have my serious doubts, but as Ghanaians and people who love this country, we must do whatever we can to ensure the nation succeeds. If he succeeds, it is Ghanaians who succeed.”
Despite his doubts, Queiroz brings extensive World Cup experience, having guided South Africa to their first-ever qualification in 2002, taken Portugal to the knockout stage in 2010, and led Iran at both the 2014 and 2018 editions.
He is expected to arrive in Ghana this week for his official unveiling and has been tasked with restoring stability and improving the Black Stars’ performance after early exits in recent tournaments.
