Historic Manchester United Sign to Be Auctioned for £60,000
Rare Old Trafford memorabilia, including Ronaldo’s boots, set to go under the hammer
- Original Manchester United stadium sign valued at £60,000 up for auction
- Sign removed from Old Trafford’s Stretford End in 1992 with Sir Matt Busby’s approval
- Cristiano Ronaldo’s gold boots from 2004 also listed with £15,000 estimate
A vintage stadium sign from Manchester United is set to go under the hammer with an estimated value of £60,000.
According to Graham Budd Auctions, the iconic sign was removed from the Stretford End of Old Trafford in 1992. The current owner reportedly received permission to keep it from the club’s legendary former manager, Matt Busby, with whom they had a close relationship.
The sign includes 16 large letters spelling “Manchester United,” each measuring about 3 feet in height, along with 12 smaller letters forming the words “football club.” While the original neon lighting is no longer intact, the piece remains a significant part of the club’s history.
Also featured in the auction is a unique item linked to Cristiano Ronaldo—a pair of gold Nike Vapor boots worn by the star in 2004. The boots, which carry a guide price of £15,000, were reportedly discarded by Ronaldo after a training session and later recovered by a long-serving club cleaner.
Both memorabilia items will be auctioned on April 28 in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.
