- MP calls for urgent passage of anti-LGBTQ bill.
- Majority accused of delaying despite strong numbers.
- Religious groups cited as backing the bill.
The Member of Parliament for Bosome Freho, Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh, has called on Parliament to urgently pass the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill under a certificate of urgency.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament during the Second Reading of the bill, Nana Ayeh said the Government has the overwhelming majority needed to ensure the legislation is passed swiftly, adding that the Minority and the general public also support the move.

He commended the Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee for presenting the bill and praised the sponsors for their commitment and consistency in pushing the legislation forward.
According to him, the anti-LGBTQ bill became a major campaign issue during the elections and also provided religious leaders with grounds to criticize the previous administration.
Nana Ayeh noted that there had been uncertainty over whether the previous Parliament officially transmitted the bill to the presidency for assent, but stressed that the current process is now straightforward and clear.
“We have a welcoming majority that can even take a day to pass this bill,” he stated. “Just like we passed the Gold Board bill and the E-Levy bill under a certificate of urgency, it is important that we apply the same urgency to this LGBTQ bill so it can be passed today, if possible, for presidential assent tomorrow.”
The Bosome Freho MP also highlighted what he described as strong backing from religious bodies across the country, including the Roman Catholic Church, the Church of Pentecost, clergy groups, and charismatic churches.
“We can stay overnight just like we did for the Gold Board bill. You have the overwhelming numbers to pass the bill now,” he told the Majority caucus.
