Accra-Kumasi Expressway To Feature 8 Interchanges, 11 Overpasses And 55 Bridges
The 198.7-kilometre expressway will feature 8 interchanges, 11 overpasses, 55 bridges and other modern road safety and traffic management facilities.

The Accra-Kumasi Expressway will feature eight grade-separated interchanges, 11 vehicle overpasses and 55 mainline bridges, alongside several other safety and traffic management facilities.
The Managing Director of Accra-Kumasi Expressway Limited disclosed the details during Monday’s handover of the 175.6-kilometre right-of-way cleared by the Ghana Armed Forces.
The 198.7-kilometre project will stretch from Ablekuma in the Greater Accra Region to Sewua in the Ashanti Region, comprising 176 kilometres of newly constructed expressway and about 23 kilometres of upgraded connector roads.
The mainline will be a Class A highway with a three-lane dual carriageway, built on a 36-metre roadbed and designed for speeds of up to 120 km/h. The connector roads will be Class B roads with a speed limit of 60 km/h.
Other features include nine at-grade intersections, about 200 reinforced concrete box culverts, four service areas, eight tolling points, one operating centre and two monitoring centres.
The project will also include a fire service and ambulance station, three maintenance depots, as well as road safety and electromechanical systems to support an intelligent transport network.
When completed, the expressway is expected to shorten the Accra-Kumasi distance by about 50 kilometres, cut travel time by half and reduce transport costs by approximately 40%.
The project is also expected to ease pressure on the existing N6 and provide safer and more reliable transportation between Accra and Kumasi.
