Funds For Accra-Kumasi Expressway To Be Ready By December, No Borrowing – Ato Forson

Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has assured Ghanaians that the government will not borrow to finance the construction of the Accra-Kumasi Expressway.
Speaking at Monday’s handover of the 175.6-kilometre right-of-way for the project, Dr Ato Forson said the full amount required for construction will be secured from domestic sources by December 2026.
He said arrangements are already underway to mobilise the funds locally, stressing that the project will proceed without financial delays once construction begins.
“The entire amount needed for the construction of this expressway will be ready by December 2026. For the avoidance of doubt, we will not borrow a pesewa for this construction,” he said.
The 198.7-kilometre expressway is expected to reduce travel time and transport costs between Accra and Kumasi while easing pressure on the existing road network.
The project is also expected to improve road safety and support economic activity through modern road infrastructure designed to handle increasing traffic volumes.
Monday’s handover of the cleared right-of-way marks a major step towards the construction phase of the project.
