Accra-Kumasi Expressway: Quality, Value For Money And Timely Delivery Non-Negotiable – Agbodza

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has warned that quality, value for money and timely delivery will be non-negotiable in the construction of the Accra-Kumasi Expressway.

He said the 198.7-kilometre expressway must be built to international standards and managed as a long-term national asset capable of supporting economic growth.

Speaking at a handover ceremony for the 175.6-kilometre right-of-way cleared by the Ghana Armed Forces on Monday, September 14, Agbodza said the project is a major part of government’s efforts to address the growing pressure on the Accra-Kumasi corridor.

He noted that increasing population, freight and commercial activity have placed significant pressure on the existing N6, making a modern expressway necessary to separate through traffic from local traffic and improve logistics.

The Minister said the procurement process is being advanced through international competitive pre-qualification to attract technically capable and financially strong companies with experience in projects of similar scale and complexity.

He stressed that the process must be competitive, transparent and rigorous to ensure Ghana gets value for money and quality infrastructure delivered on time.

The Ghana Armed Forces recently completed the clearing of 175.6 kilometres of the project’s right-of-way in 19 weeks, one week ahead of the scheduled 20-week timeline.

Agbodza also said the project will create opportunities for Ghanaian engineers, contractors, consultants, suppliers, artisans and young professionals through local participation, skills transfer and technology transfer.

He added that the expressway must connect effectively with the wider road network, including the emerging Kumasi Outer Ring Road, to maximise its impact on transportation and economic activity.
