Joseph Blankson Adumadzie, a staff member of the Electoral Commission (EC), has formally petitioned President John Dramani Mahama to remove EC Chairperson Jean Mensa and her deputies, Dr. Bossman Eric Asare and Samuel Tettey, citing alleged misconduct that he claims undermines the credibility of Ghana’s electoral system.

Adumadzie confirmed on Monday, November 24, that the petition was submitted under Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution, which sets out the procedure for removing heads of independent constitutional bodies.

While he declined to disclose all details as required by law, Adumadzie revealed that the petition is based on 12 counts of alleged misbehaviour, including cronyism, abuse of office, and gross incompetence.

He argued that the conduct of the three senior officials has weakened public confidence in the EC and threatens the integrity and independence of Ghana’s electoral process.

Adumadzie emphasised that his actions are motivated by a commitment to safeguard the Constitution and promote accountable governance.

He urged President Mahama to refer the petition to the Chief Justice to determine whether a prima facie case exists, in line with Article 146 procedures, to protect the dignity of the Electoral Commission and ensure a credible democratic system.
