GBA to Announce Position on Tribunals Law Soon – GBA President
The Ghana Bar Association says its Legal Committee is reviewing the Tribunals Law and will announce its position after a careful legal and constitutional assessment.

The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) says it will soon announce its position on the controversial Tribunals Law after its Legal Committee completes a detailed analysis of the legislation.
GBA President Efua Ghartey disclosed this at the Ghana Bar Association Conference 2026/27 in Ada on Monday, September 14.
She said the Legal Committee, led by private legal practitioner Ace Ankomah, is currently reviewing and researching the law before the Association takes a formal position.
According to Mrs Ghartey, the GBA will not rush to make a pronouncement but will subject the legislation to careful legal and constitutional scrutiny.
She said the review will focus on issues including the jurisdiction of the tribunals, appointment of members, decision-making processes, fair trial standards, and the independence of the tribunals.
The GBA President stressed that the independence of the tribunals would be a key consideration in determining the Association’s position.
She also assured the public that the Bar would continue to hold statutory and government institutions accountable to Ghana’s constitutional standards.
President John Mahama assented to the Tribunals Bill, 2026, in August despite opposition from the Minority in Parliament, organised labour and former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
