Accra-Kumasi Expressway to Be Completed by December 2028 – Ing. Ahlidza
Construction of the 175.6-kilometre expressway is expected to begin in January 2027 after the completion of the ongoing procurement process.

The 175.6-kilometre Accra-Kumasi Expressway is expected to be completed by December 2028, with physical construction scheduled to begin in January 2027.
Managing Director of Accra-Kumasi Expressway Limited, Engineer Francis Ahlidza, said the project is expected to take two years to complete after the ongoing procurement and contractor selection processes.
He disclosed that the procurement process has already begun, with firms being invited to express interest in undertaking the major road project.
According to Ing. Ahlidza, the contractor selection will be conducted in two stages through international competitive procurement to ensure qualified companies are selected.
He said the process is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, allowing contractors to commence work in January 2027 and finish by December 2028.
The timeline was announced a day after the official right-of-way handover ceremony for the project on Monday, September 14.
The completed expressway is expected to improve connectivity between Accra and Kumasi, reduce travel times, enhance road safety and facilitate the movement of people and goods along one of Ghana’s busiest economic corridors.
The project will include eight grade-separated interchanges, 11 vehicle overpasses and 55 mainline bridges.
