President John Dramani Mahama has described the growth of Zonda Tech Ghana Limited as a remarkable Ghanaian success story, highlighting the company’s transformation from a vehicle distributor into a major automotive assembly firm.

Speaking at the commissioning of the third phase of the Zonda Tech Ghana Assembly Plant on Tuesday, September 15, President Mahama said the expansion represents an important milestone in Ghana’s industrial development.

He said the development demonstrates the potential of local manufacturing and the need for Ghana to produce more of what it consumes while increasing its capacity to export locally manufactured goods.

According to President Mahama, investments such as the Zonda Tech assembly plant reflect growing confidence in Ghana’s economy and the capabilities of its people while creating opportunities for decent employment.

He noted that Zonda Tech began in 2010 as a vehicle distribution company established by Madam Yang Yang but has since evolved into a major assembler of heavy-duty vehicles, SUVs and small cars.

President Mahama linked the company’s growth to Ghana’s long-standing pursuit of industrial self-reliance, referencing the vision of the country’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, for economic and industrial independence.

Zonda Tech has since expanded into the assembly of passenger vehicles, sport utility vehicles and light trucks from several leading Chinese brands.

President Mahama said the company’s continued investment, strategic partnerships and determination have positioned it among the modern vehicle assembly facilities in the West African sub-region.
