The Blue Water Guards in Prestea, Western Region, have successfully carried out an anti-illegal mining operation near the Ankobra River, disrupting unauthorized activities along a site known as “Amponsah” in the Himan Community.

Acting on credible intelligence, the task force launched a swift raid that sent illegal miners fleeing the scene, abandoning their mining tools and machinery.
During the operation, the team seized eight water pumping machines and destroyed eight Changfan (chanfang) machines used for galamsey activities. Additionally, three other Changfans were reported to have sunk into the river during the raid. No casualties were recorded.
The confiscated items have since been handed over to the local police station as investigations and manhunt efforts for the fleeing miners continue.

This latest operation adds to the growing list of decisive actions taken by the Blue Water Guards since their formation in March.
The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources sees these efforts as a significant contribution to protecting Ghana’s water bodies and restoring degraded lands caused by illegal mining.
