Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has renewed his appeal to Ghanaians to refrain from retaliatory actions against South Africans living in Ghana amid ongoing xenophobic attacks targeting foreign nationals in South Africa.

Speaking in a special interview on JoyNews’ Newsfile programme and monitored by lawsonmediaonline.com on Saturday, Mr Ablakwa described the attacks as distressing and troubling, especially for Africans committed to the ideals of unity and solidarity across the continent.

Despite the growing concerns, he stressed that Ghana must not respond with similar hostility, noting that retaliation would contradict the principles of African brotherhood and peaceful coexistence.

“The entire continent looks up to Ghana for leadership. We cannot engage in the same conduct we condemn. While the situation is painful, we must take the high moral ground and demonstrate the strength of our character,” he stated.

Mr Ablakwa emphasized that Ghana should continue to uphold the vision of a united Africa by welcoming people from all parts of the continent, including South Africans residing in the country.

He further noted that the actions of a few individuals in South Africa should not be used to justify attacks on innocent South Africans living in Ghana.

The Minister called on Ghanaians to exercise patience, tolerance, and restraint while diplomatic efforts continue to address the situation and promote harmony among African nations.
