Police Rescue Abducted Girl from Agormanya; Suspect Arrested

The Ghana Police Service has rescued a nine-year-old girl who was allegedly abducted in Agormanya Zongo in the Eastern Region and arrested a suspect linked to the case.
According to a statement from the Eastern Regional Police Command, the arrest was made on Monday, April 20, 2026, after the girl’s father reported her missing the previous day when she failed to return home.
Police said intelligence-led operations carried out by officers from the Odumase-Krobo District Command, with assistance from personnel at Kotoka International Airport, led to the arrest of 36-year-old Regina Mamle Tawiah.
The girl was rescued at the airport, where initial investigations suggest the suspect was attempting to transport her to Kenya.
Authorities confirmed that the victim has since been safely reunited with her father.
The suspect was arraigned before the Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court on Tuesday, April 21, where she pleaded not guilty.
She has been remanded into police custody and is scheduled to reappear in court on May 5, 2026, for a case management conference.
The Eastern Regional Police Command has urged the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement agencies.
