MTN Ghana has celebrated 30 years of operations in the country, with its Chief Executive Officer, Stephen Blewett, highlighting the remarkable transformation of Ghana’s telecommunications industry over the past three decades.

Speaking at the company’s 30th Anniversary Media Launch in Accra, Blewett described the occasion as a significant milestone not only for MTN Ghana but also for the country’s broader telecom sector.

He congratulated the company’s board, management, staff, agents, partners and customers for contributing to MTN Ghana’s growth and success over the years.

According to him, Ghana’s telecommunications industry has evolved dramatically since the early 1990s, when access to telephone services was extremely limited. He noted that the sector has since grown into a modern, mobile-driven and data-focused ecosystem serving millions of subscribers nationwide.

Blewett said the industry’s growth had been driven by the combined efforts of mobile network operators, internet service providers, telecom infrastructure companies and numerous businesses supporting the sector.

He also credited regulatory bodies such as the National Communications Authority and the National Information Technology Agency, as well as successive governments, for creating policies that encouraged investment and digital expansion.

The MTN Ghana CEO further acknowledged the role played by key policymakers in shaping the industry, including John Dramani Mahama, who previously served as Minister for Communications and the first Board Chairman of the NCA.

Blewett noted that the telecommunications sector was built through the efforts of engineers, technical teams, sales personnel and regulatory experts who contributed to expanding connectivity across the country.

Touching on the future of the industry, he referenced Ghana’s recently launched National AI Strategy, stating that digital innovation and emerging technologies would shape the next phase of growth.

The anniversary launch marks the beginning of a series of activities planned by MTN Ghana to commemorate three decades of operations, investment and digital inclusion in the country.

Since entering the Ghanaian market in 1994, MTN Ghana has grown to become the country’s largest mobile network operator and a major contributor to Ghana’s digital economy.
