The National Health Insurance Authority (National Health Insurance Authority Ghana) has suspended three pharmacies from the National Health Insurance Scheme over suspected fraudulent claims and irregularities uncovered during a routine verification exercise.

The affected facilities—DELDEM Pharma Limited, Paramedica Pharmacy, and Desh Chemist—were placed under immediate suspension effective Thursday, May 14, 2026, following findings that raised concerns about possible abuse of the scheme.

According to the Authority, the irregularities identified in claims and service transactions created “reasonable suspicion of fraud” under the NHIS Provider Service Agreement.

During the suspension period, the pharmacies are prohibited from dispensing medicines or providing services under the NHIS until further notice.

The NHIA directed insured members to seek pharmaceutical services from other accredited providers across the country while investigations continue.

The Authority also cautioned all accredited healthcare facilities against engaging in practices that could undermine the sustainability of the scheme, warning that fraudulent activity will not be tolerated.

It further reminded providers that offences involving fraud against the NHIS carry severe penalties, including fines and imprisonment of up to 10 years upon conviction.

In a statement signed by Chief Executive Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, the NHIA reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the protection of public funds.

The Authority emphasized that safeguarding the integrity of the NHIS remains essential to ensuring continued access to quality healthcare for all members.
