A group of armed men have reportedly attacked and robbed a Mobile Money (MoMo) vendor at Walewale in the North East Region in broad daylight.
The incident occurred at about 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, causing panic among residents and raising fresh concerns about the safety of businesses and MoMo operators in the area.
According to residents, the incident began when a man approached the vendor to conduct a money transfer. He reportedly handed over cash to the vendor and the transaction was underway when a group of armed men suddenly appeared at the scene.
The suspects allegedly fired several gunshots, sending residents and passers-by running for safety.
Amid the confusion, the attackers reportedly seized the vendor’s money bag containing cash before fleeing the area.
The suspects also allegedly took away the motorcycle belonging to the man who had gone to the vendor to conduct the transaction.
Residents said the loss of the motorcycle was particularly painful for its owner because he had reportedly purchased it only a day before the robbery.
The broad-daylight attack, which occurred during normal commercial activities, has heightened concerns about security in Walewale, with residents calling for increased security measures to protect businesses and residents.
Some residents have alleged that the suspected robbers were Fulani. However, the claim has not been independently verified, and the identities and backgrounds of the suspects remain unknown.
