Kokofu Opens Massive Lead in Ashanti NPP Chairmanship Perception Survey

Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu has taken a commanding lead in the race for the Ashanti Regional NPP Chairmanship, according to a new stakeholder perception survey by Africa Wash Consult, conducted August 7, 2026.
The survey puts Kokofu’s overall stakeholder perception at 80.6%, against 19.4% for his closest rival, Chairman Odeneho Kweku Appiah (COKA).
The survey, which drew 841 responses from chiefs, queens, pastors, Muslims, businessmen, market women, media practitioners and transport operators across the region, found Kokofu leading in all nine categories measured namely most strongly in communication skills (88.6%), anger management and loyalty (87.9% each).
His narrowest lead came among taxi and trotro drivers (66.7% to 33.3%), while COKA showed comparatively stronger recognition in the transport, media, and leadership-skills categories.
The average category share stood at approximately 78.7% for Kokofu against 21.3% for COKA.
Despite the scale of the lead, researchers cautioned the findings should not be treated as the “sole determinant” of the outcome, recommending the party triangulate the results with delegate-level evidence, constituency organisation and campaign capacity, with particular attention to shoring up transport-sector and media engagement.
