The Minority Caucus in Parliament has boycotted a scheduled briefing by the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr. Johnson Asiama, after the Majority voted to exclude the media from the Committee of the Whole proceedings.

The disagreement centred on whether parliamentary journalists should be allowed to cover the Governor’s appearance, during which he was expected to answer questions on the Bank’s foreign exchange interventions, reserve management, and financial performance.

Following the walkout, the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Economy and Development Committee, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, told journalists that the Majority’s decision to bar the media appeared aimed at preventing the public from accessing important information.

According to him, the Minority had submitted three key questions seeking clarification on the source of the foreign exchange being used to support the cedi, the framework guiding the Bank’s interventions in the foreign exchange market, and the total amount injected into the market.

The Minority has maintained that the proceedings should be open to the media to ensure transparency and public accountability.
