President John Dramani Mahama has officially cut sod for the construction of a new Terminal 2–3 concourse at the Kotoka International Airport, marking the start of a major expansion project aimed at improving passenger experience and boosting aviation capacity.
The project is expected to enhance connectivity between Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, streamline passenger movement, and support the growing demand for air travel in Ghana and the wider West African region.
Speaking at the ceremony in Accra, President Mahama described the development as part of a broader vision to modernise the country’s aviation infrastructure and position Ghana as a regional transport hub.
He noted that the new concourse will help ease congestion, improve operational efficiency, and provide world-class facilities for travellers using the airport.
Officials say the project will include expanded boarding gates, improved passenger handling systems, and upgraded amenities to meet international standards.
The initiative is also expected to create jobs during both the construction and operational phases, while supporting tourism and trade.
Authorities have indicated that the expansion forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Ghana’s infrastructure base and attract more international airlines and investment into the aviation sector.
