Ing. Kwabena Agyepong Calls for National Rebirth Through Integrity, Discipline and Better Planning
Former NPP General Secretary says Ghana must restore professionalism, enforce planning laws, and rebuild public trust to achieve lasting prosperity.

Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) General Secretary and former Press Secretary to President John Agyekum Kufuor, Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, has called for a comprehensive national transformation anchored on integrity, discipline, professionalism, and responsible leadership.
Speaking as the guest speaker at the 10th Anniversary Celebration of MC-Bauchemie Ghana Limited at the Labadi Beach Hotel under the theme, “The Next Decade – Purpose in Motion,” Ing. Agyepong said Ghana’s construction and built environment sectors reflect broader governance challenges that require urgent national attention.
The engineer and former Executive Director of the Ghana Institution of Engineering noted that Ghana’s construction industry is facing a crisis that extends beyond poor materials and workmanship.
According to him, the country is grappling with declining standards of integrity, accountability, planning, and value for money, stressing that these shortcomings are symptoms of a deeper national governance problem.
He urged Ghanaians to confront the country’s challenges with courage rather than despair, insisting that the nation can still reclaim its founding vision through purposeful leadership and collective responsibility.
Ing. Agyepong expressed concern over rising unemployment, illegal mining (galamsey), poor sanitation, uncontrolled urban development, and persistent land disputes, describing them as clear signs that Ghana needs a renewed national direction.
He further stressed the need to restore meritocracy, professionalism, and respect for hard work, adding that public office should be viewed as a position of service rather than personal enrichment.
On urban development, the former NPP General Secretary called for strict enforcement of spatial planning regulations, comprehensive urban regeneration, rural renewal, and stronger environmental protection measures.
He maintained that Ghana’s cities should become well-planned, inclusive, and sustainable while rural communities receive modern infrastructure capable of improving livelihoods.
Touching on the construction sector, Ing. Agyepong underscored the importance of adopting modern construction technologies and high-quality building materials to improve the durability and safety of infrastructure across the country.
He encouraged engineers, architects, planners, surveyors, regulators, and private sector stakeholders to uphold the highest professional standards and prioritize quality assurance on every project.
Congratulating MC-Bauchemie Ghana Limited on its decade of operations, Ing. Agyepong commended the company’s contribution to improving construction standards in Ghana and urged it to continue promoting innovation, accountability, and excellence within the industry.
He concluded by urging all stakeholders to work together to build “a Ghana engineered for prosperity,” where integrity, discipline, quality, and national service become the foundation for sustainable development.
