Chelsea Sack Liam Rosenior After Short Tenure Following Poor Run of Results
Chelsea Football Club part ways with Liam Rosenior after a poor run of results leaves the club outside the Champions League places.

- Rosenior sacked after less than four months
- Chelsea lose five league games without scoring
- Calum McFarlane appointed interim manager
Chelsea Football Club have dismissed head coach Liam Rosenior after less than four months in charge, following a dramatic dip in form that saw the team lose five consecutive Premier League matches without scoring for the first time since 1912.
Rosenior, who joined Chelsea in January on a five-and-a-half-year contract, managed 11 wins in 23 games across all competitions. However, recent performances, including a 3-0 defeat to Brighton, intensified pressure on his position.
After that loss, Rosenior described his team’s display as “indefensible” and “unacceptable,” amid visible frustration from travelling supporters.
The poor run has seen Chelsea drop to seventh in the Premier League, damaging their hopes of qualifying for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
In an official statement, Chelsea said Rosenior had maintained “the highest integrity and professionalism” during his tenure but acknowledged that results had fallen below expectations.
The club added that the decision was taken with reluctance but was necessary given the current trajectory of performances.
Several candidates are already being considered for the role, including Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola, Fulham head coach Marco Silva, and former Borussia Dortmund boss Edin Terzić.
Iraola is expected to leave Bournemouth at the end of the season, while Silva’s contract at Fulham is nearing its end. Terzić has also previously been linked with top Premier League vacancies.
Chelsea confirmed that assistant coach Calum McFarlane will take over as interim manager for the remainder of the season.
McFarlane previously stepped in briefly earlier in the campaign following the dismissal of Enzo Maresca, overseeing a draw against Manchester City and a defeat to Fulham.
Chelsea added that the club will now begin a review process to ensure a long-term appointment is made to restore stability.
McFarlane’s first match in charge will be against Leeds in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley, with a place in the final at stake.
