Prominent Ghanaian economist and senior New Patriotic Party (NPP) figure, Kwame Pianim, has hailed President John Dramani Mahama as a leader who genuinely listens and is uniquely positioned to guide Ghana toward meaningful transformation.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) to the President at Jubilee House on June 11, Mr. Pianim emphasized that out of Ghana’s population of over 35 million, President Mahama stands out as the only individual with the capability to “reset” the nation and build a legacy that will endure.
“You are the one person in this country who can steer Ghana back onto the right path,” Pianim told the President. “This is a critical moment in our history. You don’t need to worry about party politics or votes—just focus on doing what’s best for Ghana.”
Pianim called on all Ghanaians, regardless of political affiliation, to support Mahama’s leadership, stressing the importance of unity in strengthening democracy.
Addressing GNAT’s concerns, Pianim expressed optimism that Mahama would honor commitments made to teachers—a sharp contrast to prior administrations. He criticized past unfulfilled promises, particularly the pledge to build 10,000 houses for educators.
“Every successful person owes part of their journey to a teacher. Yet, we continue to undervalue their contributions. Unlike before, when promises were made and broken, this President means what he says. He listens and follows through,” Pianim said.
He also cited countries like Canada, where teachers are well-compensated and respected, as examples Ghana should follow.
