Collision underscores the dangers of risky overtaking on busy roads, prompting calls for increased caution

- 2 deaths in a bus collision
- Bus crashes into a school wall
- Multiple injuries reported
Two individuals lost their lives on Sunday night following a head-on collision between a Scienta vehicle and a Metro Mass Transit (MMT) bus at Assin Fosu in the Central Region.
The accident happened around 7 p.m. when the Scienta, traveling from Cape Coast, reportedly attempted an overtaking maneuver and collided with an oncoming MMT bus coming from Kumasi.

The deceased include the driver of the Scienta and one of its passengers. Five other occupants were injured and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
ASP Wonder Lumor, the Central North Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) Commander, explained that the vehicle being overtaken had slowed down to make a turn when the Scienta driver moved into the opposite lane, leading to the crash.
The collision caused the bus to veer off the road and crash into the wall of Obiri Yeboah Senior High School, which subsequently collapsed.
Additionally, three children walking along the roadside were hit by the bus and sustained injuries. They have been admitted to hospital and are in stable condition.
William Aboagye, the driver of the MMT bus, confirmed that no passengers on his bus were killed. He stated that the collision occurred suddenly as the Scienta moved into the bus’s path during the overtaking attempt.
Authorities have launched investigations into the incident to determine the precise circumstances.
This accident highlights ongoing concerns about dangerous overtaking practices, especially on busy highways where motorists share narrow roads with pedestrians and other road users.
Officials continue to advise drivers to exercise caution, particularly when overtaking, and to ensure the way is clear before executing such maneuvers.
