At least 18 people have died in Kenya following severe flooding and landslides triggered by persistent heavy rainfall, according to the National Police Service.
Police said the fatalities were recorded across several counties, including Tharaka Nithi, Elgeyo-Marakwet, and Kiambu, where landslides have been reported amid the ongoing downpours.
In a statement, authorities described the situation as dangerous, warning that the continuous rains pose a serious threat to lives and property.
“The National Police Service has confirmed the loss of 18 lives as a result of these incidents, underscoring the grave danger posed by the ongoing weather conditions,” the statement said.
Kenya is currently experiencing intense rainfall as the March-to-May rainy season peaks, leading to widespread flooding, destruction of infrastructure, and displacement of residents in affected communities.
