The Member of Parliament for Asunafo South and Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, has donated six new pickup vehicles valued at GH¢2.1 million to the Asunafo South District Health Directorate. The donation aims to enhance healthcare services across the district.
The presentation took place at a ceremony in Sankore, where the vehicles were allocated to key health facilities: Sankore Polyclinic, Kwapong Health Centre, Kukuom Hospital, Asiberem Clinic, Nakatey Clinic, and Tettekwao Clinic.
During the event, Hon. Eric Opoku explained that the donation was driven by the transportation difficulties faced by health facilities, especially those in underserved and remote communities.
He highlighted that many health centers struggle to transfer critically ill patients to higher-level hospitals due to a lack of vehicles, often resorting to motorcycles and tricycles, which he described as dangerous and unacceptable.
The Agriculture Minister emphasized that the new vehicles would significantly improve emergency response times and ensure patients receive prompt medical attention.
Representing the Ghana Health Service, the Asunafo South District Director of Health Services, Dr. Kwadwo Ansong, expressed gratitude to Hon. Opoku for prioritizing healthcare delivery in the district.
He noted that the beneficiary health facilities have long faced challenges in patient transportation during emergencies due to logistics shortages. He assured that the new vehicles would greatly enhance referral services and pledged that they would be well-maintained and used solely for their intended purpose.
The Ahafo Regional Minister, Hon. Charity Gardiner, commended the initiative, describing it as a major investment in the health sector. She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of Ghanaians through strategic investments in critical sectors.
She also praised Hon. Eric Opoku for his leadership in spearheading development projects within the Ahafo region and Asunafo South Constituency.
