The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has approved a donation of US$250,000 (approximately GH¢3 million) to assist victims of the recent devastating floods in Ghana.
Foreign Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced the support, stating that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had received official notification from the ECOWAS Commission about the decision.
He emphasized that the Ghanaian government will ensure the entire amount is promptly transferred to aid flood victims once the funds are credited to the Ministry’s account.
“I wish to inform the public, transparently and responsibly, that ECOWAS has decided to donate US$250,000 (about GH¢3 million) to Ghana for flood victims,” Minister Ablakwa stated.
In a Facebook post, he assured that the funds would be fully handed over to support relief efforts as soon as they are received.
The Minister expressed the government’s deep gratitude to ECOWAS for this gesture of regional solidarity and compassion during a challenging period for affected communities.
This donation is expected to bolster ongoing national efforts to provide relief, support recovery, and facilitate rehabilitation in flood-affected areas across Ghana.
