Former MIIF boss flagged on travel watch list amid ongoing corruption investigation by Special Prosecutor.

Story Highlights
  • The former MIIF boss had been placed on a travel watch list
  • He was subsequently taken into custody for further action by the Special Prosecutor’s office
  • The development is linked to a broader anti-corruption probe initiated by the OSP

Edward Nana Yaw Koranteng, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF), was stopped from boarding an international flight at Kotoka International Airport on the night of Tuesday, July 29, 2025.

Mr. Koranteng, who is under investigation by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), was intercepted by immigration officials after attempting to leave the country without obtaining the necessary clearance from the OSP.

According to sources, the former MIIF boss had been placed on a travel watch list — commonly referred to as a “stop list” — due to the ongoing corruption investigation. His unauthorized travel attempt triggered an alert, prompting the Ghana Immigration Service to immediately notify the OSP.

He was subsequently taken into custody for further action by the Special Prosecutor’s office. While full details of the case remain undisclosed, Mr. Koranteng is reportedly on enquiry bail, indicating the seriousness of the allegations being investigated.

The development is linked to a broader anti-corruption probe initiated by the OSP. In February 2025, the office named three high-profile figures — including former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, NPA CEO Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, and Mr. Koranteng — as persons of interest in a wide-ranging investigation into suspected financial misconduct.
