$7M Cyber Scandal: Corruption Fight Must Be Fair, Not Political – Expert Warns Gov’t

Governance expert Dr. Richmond Yeboah criticizes the Attorney General’s handling of the cyber fraud case, warning that corruption must be tackled without political bias.

Governance and Development Expert, Dr. Richmond Yeboah, has weighed in on the arrest of former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), Kwabena Adu Boahene, over the alleged misappropriation of $7 million meant for a cyber defense system.

Dr. Yeboah expressed his support for the government’s efforts to combat corruption but stressed that the fight must be devoid of political biases.

“Corruption has hindered Ghana’s progress, and I was pleased with the revelation yesterday. We must name, shame, and jail corrupt officials, but the fight should remain apolitical,” he stated.

Speaking on the Ghana Se Sen Morning Show on Lawson TV/Radio, Dr. Yeboah criticized Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine’s handling of the case, stating that his press conference on Tuesday, March 24, 2025, took a partisan tone.

According to him, Ghana has established institutions like the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) and the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to handle corruption cases, and the Attorney General should not have taken center stage in announcing the matter.

He further argued that the Attorney General’s mention of Kwabena Adu Boahene’s affiliation with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) was unnecessary and injected politics into an issue that should be tackled purely on legal grounds.

Dr. Yeboah also pointed out that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) had promised a policy known as ORAL during the 2024 elections, suggesting that the Attorney General’s announcement might have been politically motivated.

He urged the government to ensure that corruption fights remain independent, transparent, and free from political interference to restore public trust in the system.
