Businessman and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama has promised a special financial reward for the Black Stars following their impressive run at the ongoing FIFA World Cup, expressing confidence that the team can progress further in the competition.

He made the pledge on Thursday, June 25, during a visit to the Black Stars’ camp in Rhode Island, where he met the players and technical team ahead of their final Group game against Croatia on Saturday, June 27.

Mahama praised the team’s determination, discipline and fighting spirit, saying their performances had convinced him to release financial support he had previously withheld pending improved results on the pitch.

“I was holding money back even when I pledged and I told the minister that look, I won’t give you the money until I see some good performance. But now I want to rush home and give him all the money,” he said.

The pledge adds to growing support from individuals and corporate bodies backing the Black Stars during the tournament.

He also commended head coach Carlos Queiroz for his impact on the team, praising his ability to quickly shape and motivate the squad since taking charge shortly before the World Cup.

“With the coach, I am very, very proud because you came in at a shorter time. You have been able to put the boys together in your wonderful performance,” he added.

Earlier in the year, Engineers and Planners, owned by Ibrahim Mahama, donated $5 million during a national fundraising campaign to support Ghana’s participation in the tournament co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
