Hearts of Oak have withdrawn from the 2026 Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) Top-4 Tournament, citing scheduling conflicts and concerns over their preparations for the upcoming Ghana Premier League season.
The Accra-based club announced the decision in a statement issued on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, explaining that the tournament dates conflict with programmes already planned by the club.
The Phobians also expressed concerns about the competition being held close to the start of the new league season, saying participation could disrupt their preparations and other commitments.
According to Hearts of Oak, the club had earlier engaged GHALCA and requested a change to the tournament schedule to enable them to participate.
However, the club said discussions with the association did not result in any changes to the proposed dates.
“After careful consideration, the Club has therefore decided that withdrawing from the tournament is the most appropriate course of action at this time,” Hearts of Oak said in its statement.
The club thanked GHALCA for its efforts in organising the competition and wished the association and the remaining participating clubs a successful tournament.
Hearts of Oak stressed that the decision would not affect its relationship with GHALCA, reaffirming its commitment to continued cooperation with the association and the wider Ghanaian football community.
The withdrawal means the 2026 GHALCA Top-4 Tournament will go ahead without one of Ghana’s most prominent clubs, with Hearts of Oak now focusing on preparations for the upcoming league campaign.
