EC Plans New Results Portal, Review of CI 127 Ahead of Future Elections

The Electoral Commission (EC) says it will review Constitutional Instrument 127 (CI 127) as part of measures to improve the transmission and management of election results in future elections.
The Commission also plans to introduce a dedicated online portal through which scanned copies of election results can be transmitted.
The EC’s Director of Electoral Services, Samuel Dottoh Kwaah, disclosed this on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, during an inter-party dialogue organised by the National Peace Council in Accra.
According to him, the planned reforms are intended to address challenges encountered during the 2024 general elections and strengthen the integrity and efficiency of the results management process.
Mr Kwaah said the Commission had identified the need to improve procedures at collation centres, particularly to prevent disruptions involving ballot papers and result sheets.
He explained that one of the challenges during the 2024 elections was the absence of a dedicated platform for transmitting scanned copies of results.
To address the gap, the EC intends to establish a dedicated portal where scanned results can be submitted as part of the results transmission process.
The introduction of the portal, he said, would require corresponding changes to CI 127, which governs the conduct of Ghana’s general elections.
“We’ll invite the political parties to come up with their inputs once the Commission has finalised the review of the C.I.,” he said.
Mr Kwaah stressed that the planned digital transmission system would not replace the physical results.
He assured stakeholders that physical copies of election results would continue to be maintained alongside the proposed digital process.
The EC said the review and proposed reforms are aimed at strengthening election results management and preventing a recurrence of challenges experienced during the 2024 electoral process.
