Two robbery suspects have been sentenced to lengthy prison terms by the Bekwai Circuit Court after being found guilty in connection with a violent robbery at Asonkore in Obuasi.

The Ghana Police Service, through the Ashanti South Regional Command, confirmed that Rashid Adams and Godfred Ampadu pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery on April 10, 2026.

The court sentenced Rashid Adams to 30 years imprisonment, while Godfred Ampadu received a 25-year sentence. Both sentences are to run concurrently.

A third suspect, identified as Dominic Naazie, is alleged to have assisted in the operation. He pleaded not guilty and has been remanded into custody, with the case adjourned to April 24, 2026.

The convictions stem from a robbery incident on April 3, 2026, during which a gold dealer was attacked, knocked down with a tricycle, and robbed of gold and cash.

Following investigations, police arrested the suspects and recovered the stolen gold as well as a vehicle believed to have been acquired using proceeds from the crime.

The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to fighting violent crime and ensuring offenders are brought to justice.
