A man has been arrested in Jigawa State, Nigeria, after allegedly stealing shoes belonging to worshippers during prayer sessions at a mosque.

Reports suggest the suspect may have been involved in similar thefts at several mosques over time, although the exact number of stolen footwear has not yet been determined.

According to eyewitness Muhammed Sani Yusuf, the suspect was caught in the act on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at a mosque located along Maje Road in Hadejia.

He explained that the arrest came after worshippers grew suspicious due to repeated cases of missing shoes during prayer periods, prompting closer monitoring of the area.

The suspect was eventually apprehended on the mosque premises, ending what is believed to have been a series of theft incidents targeting worshippers.

Authorities are continuing investigations into the matter.
