Ghana–Dangote Fuel Deal Yet to Take Off – Gov’t
Government says fuel supply from Dangote Refinery remains conditional and not yet operational

- The Ghana–Dangote fuel deal has not yet reached the implementation stage, and no start date has been set for fuel supplies
- Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu confirmed that negotiations are ongoing
- Officials emphasize that the arrangement remains conditional
The government has clarified that discussions between Ghana and the Dangote Refinery have not yet progressed to the implementation stage, and no specific timeline has been set for the commencement of fuel supplies.
In an interview, Government Spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu explained that negotiations are ongoing, and any rollout will depend on necessity and the finalisation of agreements.
“Engagements are ongoing. When it is deemed necessary to commence, it will take off,” he said.
His remarks follow comments by President John Dramani Mahama that Ghana is making progress in talks with the Dangote Refinery to potentially secure fuel supplies.
The proposed arrangement is being considered as part of efforts to stabilise fuel supply and prices amid global disruptions.
Officials note that while the development could signal a shift in Ghana’s fuel sourcing strategy, the deal remains conditional and is not yet operational, pending the conclusion of negotiations.
