U.S. President Donald Trump has declared that a ceasefire understanding with Iran is no longer in effect, warning that the United States is prepared to launch further strikes following a renewed exchange of attacks between the two countries.

Speaking to reporters at the NATO summit in Ankara, Trump said the U.S. would likely carry out another military operation against Iran, issuing a strong warning over Tehran’s recent actions.

“We’re going to hit them hard tonight,” Trump said, adding that Washington may proceed with military action even without reaching a new diplomatic agreement.

The latest escalation follows U.S. strikes on more than 80 Iranian targets, including air defence systems, command centres, radar facilities, anti-ship missile sites, and Revolutionary Guards vessels in areas around the Strait of Hormuz, according to U.S. Central Command.

Washington said the attacks were carried out after three tankers were targeted in the strategic waterway, while Iran accused the United States of violating the ceasefire arrangement and vowed to respond.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they had retaliated by targeting U.S. military positions in Bahrain and Kuwait, warning that any further attacks would trigger a stronger response.

The renewed hostilities have unsettled global markets, with oil prices rising over concerns that further conflict could disrupt shipping and energy supplies through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil routes.

The crisis also overshadowed the NATO summit, where leaders had planned to focus on Ukraine and defence cooperation. Instead, Trump’s warning has heightened fears of another major military confrontation in the Gulf region.
