Road Safety Advocate and driver trainer, Frank Agyei-Monney, popularly known as Sir Monney, has cautioned drivers to remain vigilant on the road, stressing that a single error behind the wheel can result in multiple deaths.

He made the remarks during the end-of-year celebration of the Lord Jay Drivers Welfare Group held in Accra.

The event brought together members of the drivers’ welfare association and included activities such as free health screening conducted in partnership with health professionals.

As part of efforts to promote safer driving habits, the group invited Sir Monney to educate drivers on responsible road use and the importance of adhering to traffic regulations.

Speaking in an interview, he highlighted the heavy responsibility that comes with being a driver, warning that carelessness can have deadly consequences.

“As a driver, one mistake from you can cost many lives, so you must always stay alert and focused,” he said.

He compared the profession to medicine to emphasize the level of risk involved.

“If a doctor makes a mistake, it may affect one person. But if a driver makes a mistake, it can lead to the loss of many lives. That is why drivers must be extra careful at all times,” he added.

Sir Monney also urged drivers to take time to study and obey road traffic laws, noting that ignorance of the rules contributes to many avoidable accidents.

“Many drivers do not pay attention to the laws. They need to read and understand them to avoid problems and ensure safety on our roads,” he stated.

Executives of the Lord Jay Drivers Welfare Group also praised the success of the programme and encouraged more drivers to join the association to benefit from similar initiatives. They further advised drivers to prioritise their health by resting when tired and maintaining proper nutrition to stay fit for work.
