MobileMoney Fintech LTD, in partnership with UMB and Caller Market, has launched the ‘Wo Nkosoɔ’ capacity-building programme aimed at empowering traders, tailors, and dressmakers with digital financial knowledge and business management skills..

The event, held at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi, brought together traders and business owners to educate them on the benefits of mobile money services, digital banking and business growth strategies.

Speaking to the media, Charles Osei Owusu, Senior Manager for Business Development at MobileMoney Fintech LTD said the initiative forms part of efforts by MTN Ghana and its partners, UMB and Caller Market, to support traders, especially tailors and dressmakers, in improving their businesses through financial literacy.

According to him, many traders are unaware that mobile money services can be used for loans, pensions and savings.

“We are here to help traders improve their businesses by educating them on the opportunities available through mobile money,” he stated.

He added that the programme would not be limited to Kumasi alone, as plans are underway to extend it to other parts of the country.

Touching on mobile money fraud, Mr. Owusu noted that fraud-related activities are not new in the sector, but MTN Ghana has intensified customer education through its “Project Shine Your Eye” campaign, including drama performances aimed at educating customers on fraud prevention and the protection of their mobile money PINs.

He advised customers to remain vigilant and never disclose their MoMo PINs to anyone.

Chief Executive Officer of Caller Market, Marie-Reine Seshie, expressed excitement about partnering with MTN Ghana for the forum.

She explained that their mission is to help women-led businesses succeed and grow sustainably.

According to her, the programme also introduced participants to an AI-powered WhatsApp chatbot designed to assist business owners in managing and tracking their sales and improving overall business operations.

“The outcome we expect after this forum is that participants will be able to monitor their sales and improve the management of their businesses,” she said.

Edem Knight-Tay, Head of Corporate Communications at UMB, also expressed the bank’s commitment to supporting the initiative.

She encouraged participants to use the UMB SpeedApp, which enables customers to perform banking transactions conveniently without visiting a banking hall.

She further assured the women that UMB’s relationship managers and officers are well-equipped and ready to provide the necessary support to help grow their businesses.
