The Methodist Church Ghana has expressed solidarity with victims of the recent floods in Accra, offering prayers and calling on its ministers to provide practical support to affected individuals and families.
In a statement signed by the Presiding Bishop, Most Rev. Prof. Johnson K. Asamoah-Gyadu, the Church conveyed its sympathy to those who suffered losses following the heavy rains that triggered widespread flooding in parts of the capital.
“Our thoughts and prayers are extended to all who are affected by the deluge in parts of Accra as a result of the rains. I pray that help will come quickly for those trapped in various locations and those who have lost valuables,” the statement said.
Beyond its message of comfort, the Church urged its ministers across the country to mobilise material and physical support for flood victims.
It also encouraged congregations to make church facilities available as temporary shelters for displaced persons where necessary.
“Our ministers are encouraged to provide whatever material and physical support they can mobilise for those needing help, including, where needed, opening up church facilities to house those needing temporary accommodation,” the statement added.
The Presiding Bishop concluded the message with a prayer for those affected, saying, “May the Lord be with His people in their distress.”
The Church’s appeal comes as several communities in Accra continue to recover from the floods, which left homes, businesses and roads submerged and displaced many residents.
The Methodist Church Ghana joins other faith-based organisations in providing both spiritual encouragement and practical assistance to support victims as recovery efforts continue.
