New Asafo M/A Basic School in the Ashanti Region has received a major boost in digital education following the commissioning of a refurbished state-of-the-art computer laboratory by the MTN Ghana Foundation.
The facility, which has been transformed from an old and poorly equipped ICT block into a modern STEM Centre, is expected to provide students with access to technology, robotics equipment, and digital learning opportunities to enhance their education.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Senior Manager of MTN Ghana Foundation, Robert Kuzoe, said the initiative forms part of MTN Ghana’s commitment to bridging the digital divide by ensuring that students in rural and underserved communities have access to the same opportunities as their counterparts in urban areas.
According to him, as an engineering-driven company, MTN Ghana has a responsibility to invest in the next generation by creating platforms that expose young learners to technology and innovation.

“MTN Ghana believes that every child deserves access to quality digital education, regardless of their location,” he said.
The newly upgraded facility is equipped with about 35 computers, robotics equipment, and other learning resources designed to support Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education.

Mr. Kuzoe disclosed that the project cost over GH¢900,000 and forms part of the foundation’s broader efforts to support educational institutions across the country. He mentioned that MTN Ghana Foundation has undertaken similar interventions in several schools, including Manfe Senior High School.

He urged the management, teachers, and students of New Asafo M/A Basic School to take proper care of the facility and ensure that it is used effectively to benefit generations of learners.
The General Manager for the Northern Business District of MTN Ghana, Nii Adotey Mingle, described the project as a reflection of the foundation’s vision of creating opportunities and changing lives through technology.
He said the transformation of the ICT block represents more than just a physical upgrade, but a deliberate effort to inspire the next generation of innovators, leaders, and problem solvers.
According to him, the project followed a thorough assessment by the MTN Ghana team after identifying the challenges facing the school’s existing computer facility. The foundation then carried out comprehensive refurbishment works to create a modern and efficient learning environment for students.
“This initiative demonstrates our commitment to expanding access to technology and supporting communities across Ghana,” he added.
The Headmaster of New Asafo M/A Basic School, Mr. Gabriel Antwi, expressed gratitude to MTN Ghana Foundation for the intervention, describing the commissioning as a historic and exciting moment for the school.

He explained that the school previously had an ICT block that was in a poor state without functional computers, but MTN Ghana Foundation has completely transformed it into a modern STEM Centre equipped with computers and robotics facilities.
Mr. Antwi assured that the school would take very good care of the facility and ensure that students make maximum use of it to improve their digital skills and academic performance.
He said the transformation from a basic computer laboratory into a STEM Centre marks a new era for teaching and learning at New Asafo M/A Basic School.
The initiative underscores MTN Ghana Foundation’s continued commitment to promoting digital inclusion, improving education, and empowering young people with the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.
