Government Resolves Salary Placement Concerns as Teacher Unions Call Off Strike

Teacher unions have called off their planned strike following an engagement with Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu over concerns about the placement of teachers on the appropriate salary scales.
The decision follows assurances and concrete measures agreed upon during a meeting between the Minister and leaders of the various teacher unions to address the issue.
As part of the agreement, teachers will not be required to travel to their respective District Education Offices to submit payslips for salary-scale placement.
The Ministry of Education also disclosed that nearly 80,000 teachers will be appropriately placed on their correct salary scales under the resolution.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) is expected to provide the Controller and Accountant-General’s Department with the necessary data to facilitate the required adjustments and payments to affected teachers.
The agreement is expected to ease concerns that had prompted teachers to threaten industrial action over challenges with their placement on the appropriate salary scales.
The Ministry of Education thanked the teacher unions for their constructive engagement and commitment to resolving the matter in the interest of Ghana’s education system.
It further assured teachers that it remains committed to working with all relevant stakeholders to ensure they receive their rightful entitlements in a timely and efficient manner.
