NPP’s Bonzo Kay Backs JFK for Second Term, Eyes 2028 Victory

The Western Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bonzo Kay, has expressed strong confidence in the party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua (JFK), praising his leadership, administrative reforms and efforts to position the party for victory in the 2028 general elections.
Mr. Kay made the remarks during JFK’s campaign tour of the Western Region ahead of the NPP’s National Executive Elections, scheduled for October 3 in Kumasi.
Bonzo Kay Endorses JFK
Reflecting on his relationship with JFK’s political journey, Bonzo Kay said he was among the early supporters of his bid for the General Secretary position in 2022.
“I was the first District Chief Executive (DCE) to endorse JFK in 2022, despite the formidable odds against him,” Mr. Kay said.
He said JFK had since demonstrated significant growth and a strong understanding of the responsibilities of the office.
“Listening to him today, I am deeply impressed to testify that he has truly mastered the demands of the job to lead us to victory in 2028,” he added.
Mr. Kay therefore urged delegates in the Western Region to give JFK overwhelming support in the upcoming national executive elections.
He argued that the General Secretary’s vision and organisational reforms had helped reconnect members who had become disengaged while restoring enthusiasm among the party’s rank and file.
Focus on Grassroots Mobilisation
Addressing delegates during the campaign tour, JFK identified strong grassroots mobilisation as a key component of the NPP’s strategy to regain power in 2028.
He said reforms introduced during his tenure had focused on bringing former Members of Parliament, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives, as well as experienced party stalwarts, back into active party work.
According to JFK, tapping into the experience and knowledge of these former leaders would strengthen the party’s ability to reconnect with voters across the country.
“I led the reforms that are turning our political fortunes around,” JFK told the delegates.
He appealed to members to maintain the unity and strategy underpinning the ongoing restructuring efforts.
“We will jealously guard this unified strategy to recapture power. All I ask is a second term in office so we can complete the vital restructuring efforts we have begun,” he said.
With the NPP’s national executive elections approaching, JFK is seeking another term as General Secretary, presenting his record of organisational reforms and grassroots mobilisation as key to the party’s preparations for the 2028 general elections.
