(VIDEO) Majority Leader Praises Ghana’s Democratic Strength as Parliament Resumes

Mahama Ayariga says Ghana’s democratic institutions remain strong despite ongoing national challenges as Parliament begins its second session meeting.

Majority Leader, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, has praised Ghana’s enduring democratic stability as Parliament officially resumed for the second meeting of its second session.

Addressing the House, the Majority Leader expressed gratitude to God for protecting the country and guiding it through difficult times.

“I begin by thanking Almighty God for His grace, protection, and mercy upon our beloved nation,” he stated.

Hon. Ayariga acknowledged that Ghana has faced several challenges and periods of uncertainty in recent times but stressed that the country continues to stand out as a symbol of hope and inspiration across Africa and beyond.

According to him, Ghana’s democratic system remains strong and continues to mature despite ongoing challenges.

“Our democracy remains resilient and grows stronger every day. Our institutions continue to function effectively, even though some difficulties persist,” he told Parliament.

The Majority Leader also commended Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin and his deputies for their commitment and dedicated service to the nation.

“The country will always be indebted to you for your selfless service to the motherland,” he said.

He further praised Members of Parliament for remaining active during the parliamentary recess, noting that their work in constituencies, committees, and international engagements demonstrated their dedication to national service.

“Though Parliament was on recess, Members were not on vacation,” he remarked, adding that he closely followed MPs’ activities across the country and beyond.

Hon. Ayariga highlighted the participation of some lawmakers in ECOWAS and Pan-African Parliament meetings, saying such engagements had broadened their understanding of regional and global issues.

He expressed confidence that the experiences gained during the recess would better position MPs to address the expectations of Ghanaians in the new session.

“I am confident that the hopes and aspirations of our people remain alive and strengthened,” he stated.

Parliament’s second meeting is expected to focus on major legislative business and oversight responsibilities in the weeks ahead.
